Modeling Morphogenesis with Reaction-Diffusion Equations

چکیده
This project studies the nonhomogeneous steady-state solutions of the Gray-Scott model, a system of nonlinear partial differential equations that has received attention in the past decade in the context of pattern formation and morphogenesis. Morphogenesis, or ‘birth of shape’, is the biological term for the initial formation of patterns that occur in development as cells begin to differentiate. The model is a two morphogen reactiondiffusion system in which individual molecules display complex self-organization in aggregate.

Lattice Boltzmann Modeling of Advection-Diffusion-Reaction Equations: Pattern Formation Under Uniform Differential Advection
A lattice Boltzmann model for the study of advection-diffusion-reaction (ADR) problems is proposed. Via multiscale expansion analysis, we derive from the LB model the resulting macroscopic equations. It is shown that a linear equilibrium distribution is sufficient to produce ADR equations within error terms of the order of the Mach number squared. Furthermore, we study spatially varying structu...
متن کاملThe reaction-diffusion approach to morphogenesis
⎯ Morphogenesis is the ensemble of processes that determines form, shape and patterns in organisms. Based on a reactiondiffusion theoretical setting and some prototype reaction schemes, we make a review of the models and experiments that support possible mechanisms of morphogenesis. We present specific case studies from chemistry (Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction) and biology (formation of wing ey...
متن کاملA CFD Simulation of Hydrogen Production in Microreactors
In this study, the modeling of hydrogen production process in microreactors by methanol-steam reforming reaction is investigated. The catalytic reaction of methanol-steam reforming producing hydrogen is simulated considering a 3D geometry for the microreactor. To calculate diffusion among species, mixture average correlations are compared to Stephan-Maxwell equations. The reactions occurring in...
متن کاملPullback D-attractors for non-autonomous partly dissipative reaction-diffusion equations in unbounded domains
At present paper, we establish the existence of pullback $mathcal{D}$-attractor for the process associated with non-autonomous partly dissipative reaction-diffusion equation in $L^2(mathbb{R}^n)times L^2(mathbb{R}^n)$. In order to do this, by energy equation method we show that the process, which possesses a pullback $mathcal{D}$-absorbing set, is pullback $widehat{D}_0$-asymptotically compact.
متن کاملFormation and Persistence of Spatiotemporal Turing Patterns
This article is concerned with the stability and longtime dynamics of structures arising from a structureless state. The paradigm is suggested by developmental biology, where morphogenesis is thought to result from a competition between chemical reactions and spatial diffusion. A system of two reaction–diffusion equations for the concentrations of two morphogens is reduced to a finite system of...
